Dude… it could have been way more practical. and seo isnt about ‘brand’, also there are no ‘hats’ because what google likes today could change tomorrow meaning things youve come to depend on, are now out of the guidelines – just like what happened back in nov 2005!

  2. Dominic Hodgson says:

I disagree, Hats are about intent not method,

Google aren’t going to change there stance on spamming blogs any time soon.

I believe it was practical for the people who don’t know the basics of SEO and was told so.

SEO isn’t about brand?, sure it is, its about promoting your brand within the engines and on the internet itself, thats the point of most websites for brick and mortar stores, its a HUGE marketing tool.

whats blog comments got to do with spam? ive added my web address in as part of my comments am i spamming or it it legitimately a reference to my place of work?

If you think blog comments are the pinnacle of black… nuff said.

  4. Colin May says:

    Mark,

I dunno if you put your web address in there as spam or not, but it’d be nice if it worked (you’ve javascript-cross-site-scripted to some JS file on http://www.robotreplay.com, which is down, ergo, your site refuses to load & render).

  5. Dominic Hodgson says:

Your bordering on the offensive there mate and I don’t appreiciate it, debating my opinions is one thing but putting words into my mouth is another thing..

“whats blog comments got to do with spam”
they have a lot to do with web spam, hence the implementation of nofollow,

“i’ve added my web address in as part of my comments am i spamming or it it legitimately a reference to my place of work?”

when did I suggest that every link in a comment is a spam link, I said it was a technique used to game rankings but your taking what I said out of content

“If you think blog comments are the pinnacle of black… nuff said.”

now your just trying to offend / embarrass me on my blog?, thats fair enough but I really don’t see the point (and what happened to there are no hats in seo?)

I really, hope you do a presentation on SEO using wordtracker and the overture tool, if you feel the community needs these things then show them, I felt that the best thing I could give in my time were simple tips to help a website thats already running and had some keywords in mind..

I don’t mind having this debate with you but don’t get offensive.. It pisses me off and really isn’t in the spirit of GeekUp!

dude… maybe we’ve got off on the wrong foot…

I know my writing style is a little abrasive and blunt but the intention was purely to give you some feedback as i know you have some personal contacts with Geekup Leeds organisers.

We spoke in person on the night and i had (and still do) hope to start a dialogue with you and other SEO professionals to swap tips and techniques on ‘playing the game’ and exerting even more influence over Google, MSN, Yahoo and the rest for our clients.

I’m no writer which is why my Blog is in such a mess :) i tend to info-dump rather than present a structured argument.

so no hard feelings dude… if you wanna chat gimme a call some time.

I’d just like to say thank you again Dominic! I think your talk was pitched spot on, and I’d like to remind people of the open 20:20 slot at next months GeekUp Leeds for people to have a go themselves…

    Cheers chap!
