In October of last year I decided that it would be a good idea to have a Geekup for Search monkeys… I registered the domain name, installed wordpress and…. forgot… then I did a conference and we had a meet up in Harrogate and the Northern Bloggers Meetup took over…
Well last night I met Stuart Turner for a pint and discussed some ideas and we are going to give it a go!
The 1st tuesday of every month at Mr. Foleys in Leeds, there will be at least 2 people in the search industry having some beers and conversation.
Based on the Leeds Ruby Thing model, its a very casual meeting with no talks and just good beers (there may be a curry or other food venture but lets not get ahead of ourselves)
NorthernSEM will have a website and a forum (soon?!) and hopefully this will begin regional NorthernSEM’s ala the Geekups…
So it kicks off this month at 7pm on the 7th (can you remember that…?)

So as you turn up to the Leeds Ruby Thing (as a non-rubyist) I’m guessing its ok for me to turn up to NorthernSEM as a non search monkey?

Good work Hodge, you’re more organised than you look. We’ve got five days of promoting to do to ensure this isn’t the gayest search gathering since this one.
Way to go Dom, best of luck for the enterprise, with a good meeting venue it should do well. It’s certainly seems Lively in Leeds atm.
Heard today about a lad from ‘down south’ who was enticed to take a job as Chef in central Leeds last year &, despite the upmarket noshery owners doing the dirty & closing down & leaving the staff unpaid, he decided to find other work & stay in Leeds rather than go back South!
