International Release Dates

May 31st, 2009

So Up (the new film from pixar) is out in the States and the trailer looks actually pretty awesome. When does it come out in the UK?….OCTOBER?

Seriously, What the feck?

What is the fecking holdup for this film, in times of ol` when film reels had to be shipped over to keep costs down I could understand a delay of a couple of months but NOW!

You want to talk about stopping piracy? well stop bullshit like this, 5 month release gaps between films (longer from some albums). DVD region coding which is only there to stop me buying a DVD cheaper in the states… yeah thats right TO STOP ME BUYING…

They want money but they want to make sure they are getting just enough money.

Digital distribution again is shite and its all because they want to scrape every last cent (we are assuming they are American at this point) from the production.

Hulu = an awesome service and I can guarantee that it has impacted US torrent rates for TV shows but because of stupid crappy licencing, England carn’t get it so we either pirate or we wait until it comes on UKTV and in this world of twitter, wikipedia and facebook its far too easy for programs to get spoiled (even more so if an American friend has seen the series 3 months ago). 24 and Lost are on sky with a week’s delay but a) its still a whole week (that’s like a year in internet time) and b) whats with all the other programs, House season 5 starts tomorrow on Sky but the WHOLE season finished weeks ago in the states!.

Southpark.com, The daily show and the colbert report all do full episodes on there site… but not for the brits (in fairness Channel 4 do stream online)

I’ve said again that Spotify is awesome, I am also willing to bet money that Piracy hates have dropped since registrations were open.

I dont mind ads in programs but I mind 4 ad breaks 5 – 6 minutes each, an annoying fecking bar at the bottom of the screen telling me who the program was sponsored by and what the feck is next on ABC and clear product placement within the program….Your taking the fecking piss.

We get bombarded by news stories about the number of people pirating but no one seems to want to solve the problem do they?

Mark Kermode has made some excellent points on his blog about 3D being the movie industries method of preventing piracy which not only misses the point, that piracy exists because the product isn’t available in the format we want it in, but also charges the customer more in the process.

I love Spotify, and I am sure it has stopped a lot of piracy.

I couldn’t wait for Up to be released here, so yeah, I found it on a streaming video site. I know I’m going to get it when it’s eventually released on DVD anyway so…meh.

These money grabbin’ idiots don’t seem to realise that imposing more restrictions on us in an effort to stop piracy, probably increases it more than anything else -_-
