So I Ordered A Telly….To The Wrong House!

February 24th, 2009

Yesterday I bought a new T.V. …. I know I know “Dom there is a credit crunch / economic crisis / recession on you should be saving not spending” but i’d had a few decent affiliate commissions come through and sold a bit of advertising on one of my sites… and I wanted one! Anyway it turned out to be an interesting night.I ordered the TV and some extra bits around 5pm at the checkout I saw that for an extra tenner or so, you can get next day delivery between 6am – 7:30am for around a tenner, I went for that since a) I hate waiting for deliveries and b) I was going to be up anyway since I was pulling an all nighter writing some reports.

So the payment goes through and everything is fine and dandy at about 11pm I get an email saying your order has been shipped.. YIPPE!, it then suddenly dawned on me, the last time I bought from eBuyer…. I worked at stickyeyes and had the delivery there…hmmm I`ll just log in and check…………………Bollocks!

It wasn’t as bad as that, I’d actually put the address down as my aunties house but with both eBuyers + Citylinks phone numbers closed at that point… I didn’t take the news too well.. Thanks to DaveN for his words of support  during my late night panic ;)

Long story short, Caius offered to pick up the telly in his car once it arrived and I went at 6ish to my aunties house (I just explained that she almost mentioned that I never come and see her anymore) and waited for CityLink.

Turns out that GMTV is the crappest program on tv and just seems to have everything on a 15 minute loop, how anyone can watch that for more than 20 minutes I`ll never know..

Thanks to everyone who offered help, TechnicalFault, Caius and Stubbs and I now know that whenever I talk about deliveries (even at 7am) half of twitter things I’m talking about pizza..

That’s nothing compared to the night I’ve just had Dom.

I’ve ordered an extremely expensive piece of music equipment on Friday, I think ooo I’ll get next day and get it delivered to the flat. Only it never showed up, this is with Citylink too. Apparently to them next day is any day that doesn’t start with the letter S.

So comes to Monday and I’m at work and they try to deliver to the flat. I phone them up and they are all “We can’t change the address on it, the company you bought it off has to do that.” The company I bought it off is not picking up the phone. But I can pick it up, yay!

I don’t have a car so I have to get a favour off someone.

I get to the depot, give the guy my attempted delivery card and he comes back with a fairly large parcel which looks fine! I sign for it. Smile and leave.

I get dropped off at my house and open it. Oh shit. This thing apparently comes with a very large stand (It didn’t say that on the product page so I thought I was getting a single box obviously.)

I look at the sticker on the box and there in very small writing are the words “2 of 3″.
I try to phone them up, they’re supposed to close at 8 but seem to have turned the phone off at 7.
I check my tracking details and it says delivered properly.

So what’s happened is the guy has gone into the back, found a large parcel, thought “That looks right.” Given it to me and I didn’t really know any better.

So my very expensive bit of kit is still sitting in their depot and I’m left with a lovely non-electronic piece of metal that I happily signed for.

When I phone them tomorrow they’re either going to be very helpful or are going to deny any knowledge of the two missing items. It’s gonna be fun anyway.

Sorry you folks have found that City Link is Delivery Stink. If only sellers realised that if those of us who buy online could select our delivery source then City Link would be bottom of the list. Even with the Royal Snail I can walk into town to collect the parcel if my friendly Postie fails to ring the bell! All other Delivery Companies are regular & flexible in their service.

Seriously, this is the crappest story ever. Fiona’s story is much more interesting, and I’ve it’s tl;dr. I suggest you transpose the content all the same.

Perhaps you include an objective rating in your Twitters of the content you are linking to. E.g. “New blog entry: So I Ordered A Telly….To The Wrong House! http://www.thehodge.co.uk/?p=361 (2/5, could try harder.)”

Thank you “Crap Story” for your comments and thank you for spending the time to write a snarky comment without having the balls to put a real name or email address in…

I’ve never had any problems with CityLink to be honest EnglishFolkFan apart from contacting them!

Fiona… you always have to outdo me! are we going to have a little match on quake live later :p

  4. Fiona says:

    Quake Live – Fuck yes.

  5. Frog says:

I must confess it looks great… thanks sweetie
